We love how things evolve - so did our "Reef of Hope idea"... it all started some time ago during a "normal" diving week in Sharm-El-Sheikh, well... it happened that at the same time there was a conference nobody knew off, so no one was allowed to go out with a boat... No need to say that the shallow dives in a sandy bay soon can't offer those stunning experiences one would have diving around Gordon's reef while enjoying a nice current...
So as we assembled at a dive base, we were thinking of what we could do... After a couple of shore dives where we always found pieces of broken coral we had an idea...
After returning back to the dive base we searched for materials to create a first "Coral Restoration Tree" - a simple structure we could mount under water that would become the new home of some broken coral pieces. Couple hours later we were back in the water fixing the structure and get it to "float" - and then diving to assemble the first broken pieces. Mounting those into the first tree marked the end of the dive...
Time went by and that first structure, that got a little abandoned was taking care of itself only to find it a year later with quite a surprise. While some of the broken pieces got grown over by algae others were thriving at an unbelievable pace... Pieces as big as a little finger have grown into a colony the size of a strong male's fist... without proper scientifical research this result showed that some of the pieces we collected a year ago have shown an incredible resilience against higher water temperatures, sandy water, different current situations as well as a lot of boat movement activities taken place in that area... The first Reef of Hope was born - and has proven that coral species from the Red Sea sometimes show extreme resilience...
